How we ground ourselves in the most difficult times

Dec 19, 2024

Lev Boiko

We are proud to share with you the launch of a new large-scale project called Brave Action Readings.
On October 19, 2024, the first event took place on the topic of “How we ground ourselves in the most difficult times.”
Scroll down to find out how it went.
Part of the audience was in a conference room in Dnipro, Ukraine. Authors and guests from all over the world connected to the readings online using ZOOM. The war stories that were read aloud in English and Ukrainian acquired an incredible emotional tone and touched every heart.
The authors presented their stories written for Brave Action Ukraine.
In particular:
  •  Ilona Batulina shared her memories about her hometown, the city of Vovchansk, in the story “Lost Moments of Joy”. She is now in Celle, Germany.

  •  Lev Boyko presented a story about his hometown, “Kharkiv during the war”.
He currently lives in Kharkiv.

  • Svitlana Hlybytska introduced her volunteer profile to the foreign audience. Here is a quote from it: “I hope that foreign readers, knowing what is really happening, will take the side of truth and justice” (Kharkiv, Ukraine).

  • Oleksandr Kotsiuruba shared his experience of living during the war in the story “Shine even in the most difficult circumstances” (Dnipro, Ukraine).

The pain of loss

Ilona Batulina:

“Today I got a new experience, an incredible experience. Since May I have been a part of the Brave Action Ukraine team. Today we held an event of the Brave Action Readings program, where each of the authors read publications that reflect their personal life path. This is the format that should be developed to attract as many people as possible from all over the world to talk about Ukraine and Ukrainians. Today, each story was revealed in a new way, where everyone opened their souls.”

The city of Kharkiv during the war

Boiko Lev:

“For me, this story is a reflection of the indestructibility of my hometown. It is about boundless love for Kharkiv, and at the same time, understanding that I am trying to wipe the city off the face of the earth. This is how I want to show the readers, our audience, how the city tries to live despite the daily shelling. I am proud of every author who told their story, it was difficult at times, but we did a great job. And I believe we were able to reveal the soul of each story, to convey our own feelings. It was something special, something that inspires and makes you feel safe and united in such difficult times.”

Oleksandr Kotsuruba

Shine even in the most difficult circumstances:

“This is the story of my life from 2022-2023. At the level of personal experience and feelings, we can understand each other. Stories written by ordinary people are a way of communicating with a Western audience.”

Volunteer profile

Svitlana Hlibytska:

“I am sincerely grateful to the organizers of these readings for the opportunity to meet these strong and bright people almost personally! I am grateful to our guests for their empathy for Ukrainians and Ukraine!!!”
