Our Pond

By Hanna Kysylyshina

Ukraine, Jan 18, 2024

aiWe had a wonderful yard
and a pond at home, which
my son Oleksiy built with his
own hands. It had water lilies
growing and fish swimming.
aiFrom childhood and
throughout his life, my son
rescued and took care of
wildlife and domestic animals.
He had a large collection and
was a well‑known animal
rights activist and caretaker.
aiOleksiy had many plans for
life: to expand his shelter for
animals in Mariupol, to create
a online channel, to get an
education, to get married, to
become a father. But without
hesitation he went to protect
the most precious: family, city,
country.
aiOleksiy loved nature very
much, dreamed of traveling.
He always did what he loved.
And he changed the world
around him.

He always did what he
loved. And he changed the
world around him.

aiEven in 'Azovstal,' he was
trying to save every life during
the hostilities. He helped cats
and dogs that were dying of
hunger and shrapnel.
aiAnd then the defense of
Mariupol, the 'honorable
capture' and the terrorist
russian attack in Olenivka.
aiThank you, son, for choosing
me to be your mother. I am
proud of you, Warrior of Light!
aiI love you. Forever in my
heart. My 'Lion'...
