What will life be like

in war?

By Lev Boiko

Kharkiv, Ukraine,
Jul 14, 2023

aiAt this time, I ask myself: what will life be like in war?
ai
aiMy thoughts were interrupted by my dad's call, he came to take me home. On the way we stopped at a supermarket.
aiAt school, in history lessons, we were told how people lived during the First and Second World Wars. Now it happened to us, I see it is a completely different thing. Still, I am not able to answer my own question.
aiAt a certain moment, there was a desire to escape somewhere from this terrible reality. When I got home, this feeling disappeared, I hugged my mother and my brother, as if a stone fell from my heart.

I feel like a child who does not understand what is happening

aiI feel like a child again, a kid not understanding what is happening. I want this day to end and turn out to be just a dream.
aiBut, before I went to sleep, there were more explosions. I wasn't sure I would wake up tomorrow alive.
aiYes, when I'm scared I know my mind may exaggerate the danger. But then it wasn't an exaggeration, it was a real threat. As I fell asleep, I asked my mother if it would be over soon, to which she replied, everything will be fine, Lev.
aiThat's how my first day of the war passed. A day that is etched in my memory forever.
