Before

Winter

Winnipeg, Canada,
Oct 8, 2022

aiAfter our departure from Kharkiv, there were severe March frosts, and the heating system in my house burst. I could not find a plumber for a long time.
aiMost of my friends had left the city. The plumbers who remained are worth their weight in gold, which is obvious given the level of destruction of the city. Six months later, there was a man willing to help, a friend of my best friend. He miraculously found someone, brought him to my home, and the heating was restored!
aiBut this is not the main thing. What's more important is that rockets flew into my friend's apartment twice, and he miraculously survived, he was saved by intuition and reaction. After being hit by rockets, he has lived all this time in his apartment without windows. Now the windows are covered with plywood and he's waiting for them to be replaced,
aiHow many houses and apartments, even if they are not destroyed, are in a terrible state before the winter. The city promises to start heating in the sections of buildings where one or more people permanently live. They won't run it in other houses.

Rockets flew into my friend's apartment, twice, and now he has lived for all this time without windows.

aiImagine, there is an aquarium in a friend's apartment. If there is no heating, then you need a generator, or other options for keepiing the fish warm. When people are more concerned about other people and living beings than about themselves, this is Ukraine.
aiSo, in the affected cities and their regions, the issue of insulation and heating is mega-acute. There are places where it is extremely difficult to repair.
aiVolunteers reach some places, but not everywhere, and their possibilities are not unlimited. A huge question now in Ukraine is how to spend the winter.
