Differences between

Ukraine and Turkey

By Mariia Minieieva

aiPeople who immigrated from Ukraine and lived for several months in another country often say their expectations were not met. I have been in Turkey for two months now. It may seem that this is a resort country with a hot climate, sea, and mountains. However, having come here not as a tourist and living the life of a resident, I have noticed a lot of shortcomings.
ai1. Turks don't heat their homes. Houses in Turkey are explicitly built to not be hot in the 30-degree heat of the summer. However, when I arrived here in May, I slept in 4 sweatshirts and four pairs of pants under two blankets and woke up every night from the cold.

ai2. Turks are not very punctual. Being late an hour or two is a common thing for residents.
ai3. In Turkey, gasoline is costly, about two times more expensive than in Ukraine. Therefore, it is not practical to cover long distances.
