war story

Mahmutlar, Turkey - May 25, 2022

It has been

three months

Mahmutlar, Turkey,
May 25, 2022

aiIt has been three months since the beginning of the war. It is the end of the school year. I’m in my graduation class – the 11th. I wish I had the prom, fuss before graduation, and graduation ceremony. I even bought a beautiful prom dress that I had to leave in Ukraine. I’m lucky that I still will have a chance to experience this in a US school, but with other people in a different place.

At the beginning of school, I knew there would be a last day and we would say goodbye... but not this way.

aiHonestly, many of my classmates have changed. At the same time, these three months were excruciatingly long and passed so quickly that I didn’t even notice. All grown up, everyone has their way of life and their plans. My friends go to different countries. I could not think that February 23 was the last day I saw them.
aiAt the beginning of the school year, I knew that this would happen, but not this way… I thought we would have a farewell party and photo session. We would spend the part of the summer together and remember what we went through together. And now, only phone messages and lonely memories remain.
