Olenivka terrorist attack

through my eyes

By Lev Boiko

Ukraine, Kharkiv,
Jul 25, 2024

aiIn 2022, when the tragedy in Olenivka occurred, I did not immediately understand what had happened. It hadn't even been six months since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion. So I guess my brain didn't know how to react to such catastrophes.
aiAt first, I wasn't particularly interested in what took place, for which I sometimes kick myself. I don't remember the exact moment I came to my senses and realized what had actually happened. I was really in shock, I didn't know what to do, it was too late.
ai I first learned about the execution of prisoners of war in Olenivka from the news. As it seems to me now, at that time I reacted and treated the situation incorrectly. I wasn't really all that aware. Even though in my social networks I saw the horrifying conditions in Azovstal, it didn't register.

They don't care, they just want to destroy us. This hardens me to this day. And, it motivates me to help my country

aiI still cannot forgive myself for this attitude. Later, in the autumn of that year, massive attacks by the Russian Federation on our energy sector began. Just then, I think, I finally realized that the war would be terrible and long. And you need to be ready for any event, anywhere, any time.
ai In essence, the terrorist attack in Olenivka became the catalyst for my realization that our enemy will never stop, not at anything. They don't care, they just want to destroy us. This hardens me to this day. And, it motivates me to help my country as much as possible in these awful times. Eternal glory to the soldiers of Azov and the Armed Forces of Ukraine!!! Glory to Ukraine and its heroes!!!
aiFrom the beginning of the full-scale invasion, I have been contributing once every week or two from my savings to ordinary Ukrainians in my social media who are constantly collecting money to support and provide our military with things they desperately need. This includes vehicles, medical supplies, specialized equipment for the front, even drones. And I am careful to only help those who publish their results and show pictures of handing over the purchases - only to those who can be trusted. Once in awhile I also donate to official government volunteer organizations such as United24.
aiI am also very grateful to the platform you are reading this on and to the people who develop and improve the various features. This gives me the opportunity to write my thoughts, convey my feelings, share life experience of a Ukrainian student with a foreign audience. This is incredibly inspiring to me.
