rescuing the homeless

Who we are

aiSince 2016, our volunteer organization "Ray of Mercy" has been saving animals made homeless by war. We feed and treat hundreds of dogs and cats whose owners fled without them. Our biggest task, though, is sterilization. We are trying hard to avoid the city killing the strays because the population has become too large to handle.
Who we are

Occupied and de-occupied

aiWhen our city of Kupyansk was occupied by Russian forces, we continued our work in whatever ways we could. And after our Ukrainian military deoccupied us, we did not stop. Each month the situation has been getting more stable and we have managed to find homes for many animals too.
ai
aiBut now, it's very difficult again. Once more the fighting has come close and there are calls by our government to evacuate the city because it is very dangerous. We will not. We are staying to take care of the animals who are left alone and are so often helpless.
ai
aiHere are some details of what we have accomplished.
ai
aiDuring the occupation, we were able to buy big bags of grain, 45kg each. We gave them to residents so they could feed the animals -- 10, 20, 100 bags, even more were delivered for the dogs and cats. "Ray of Mercy" figured out how to set up sterilizations as well:
ai99 female dogs
ai12 male dogs
ai111 female cats
ai22 male cats
aiWe were very busy.
ai
aiAnd in the last nine months when our city has been free again, we have made excellent progress. Since February 21 2023 we have sterilized:
ai229 female dogs
ai7 male dogs
ai97 female cats
ai21 male cats
Occupied and de-occupied

The Need is Great

aiWe are constantly trying to feed and neuter as many of our city's homeless animals as possible. Some have tumors. We find a way for them to get the operation they need. Some with serious heath issues, I drive to our cooperating veterinary clinic in Kharkiv a couple of hours away. And whenever we can, we evacuate animals from other dangerous towns and villages.
ai
aiThe needs are great every day. Their love keeps us going.

Your Support

aiWe would greatly appreciate your donation. With a direct line through us, you are a true life saver of innocent animals who have had their homes destroyed and their humans taken away.
ai
ai In war, the suffering and loss animals experience is often more than we realize. Your contribution helps us of course to keep paying for food, sterilizations, vaccinations and operations, the gasoline for emergency trips to veterinary clinics and evacuating animals to safety. More even than the money, your contribution gives a show of support for us to keep going. Thank you, thank you!

Many thanks to the Brave Action Ukraine team and the citizens of the United States,
who provided support with donations to our frontline sterilization and treatment projects for homeless animals in the Kupyansk, Kharkiv region.
Thank you for showing humanity with us in this difficult time.

The cats, which were evacuated to Kyiv because of extreme shelling, fell ill with rhinotracheitis. So $100 out of the $250 that came from BAU was sent to their guardian's account who took out a loan to pay for everything:

They were taken to the doctor.
Analyzes were done.
One has immunodeficiency.
New medicines were prescribed.
We also: bought an antiviral drug for everyone.

Thank you very much for your help.

Kupyansk

The sky is torn by aerial bombs, the destruction of homes and someone's life every day. In the front-line zone, the life of dogs depends on sterilization. But there are no medical services for animals in our town now because it's too dangerous. That's why I drive to Kharkiv.

I rent a car each time for UAH 5,000. ($125)
Not everyone is ready to take risk the journey.

It's not calm in the big city either. On the contrary - the Russians once again are dropping guided aerial bombs on residential areas almost every day. Since the huge attack on our energy system, there is practically no light in Kharkiv. Still, today 10 dogs were sterilized and vaccinated against rabies at the Vetlike clinic.
(Also: Imkar pierced them for piroplasmosis, just in case).

Many thanks to the doctors!

To all helpers
and to all those who care, who keep bringing homeless animals for sterilization.
Rain.

We are going home.

I will return the animals to the guardians
