Schulenberg,
Sep 13, 2023aiThe day before her capture, medic Yulia Paevska, Taira, provided Associated Press reports with unique footage of besieged Mariupol.
ai"Burning cars with burning people in them... Police officers pulling women and children who have been mutilated unrecognizably out from under the rubble... People collecting water from puddles... Ransacked houses... Dogs dragging human limbs through the city..
aiAt the hospital, medical cars arrive every five or ten minutes. The wounded and dead lie one on top of another and there are no more beds, no anesthetics or antibiotics left. Everyone is sleeping two or three hours a day as operations take place one after the other".
aiShe exclaims:" А city of half a million dies before my eyes from methodical, planned airstrikes. Air raids on hospitals and residential areas."
aiYulia Paevska, Taira, was in captivity for three months. She shared a small cell with 22 other women, lost about 9 kilograms/20 pounds, suffered torture and beatings.
Seven-year-old boy with gunshot wounds dies in my lap, I cannot save him...
ai"Specially prepared torture chambers... Prisoners forced by their murderers to strip off their clothes before being slowly killed... Some prisoners are pregnant, their fate unknown to their relatives and the state... A defender beaten for three hours thrown into the basement like a sack... Only day later someone visited him...Dead baby in mother's arms... Seven-year-old boy with gunshot wounds dies in my lap, I cannot save him..".
aiShe recounts: "For weeks prisoners screamed and died in their cells as a result of the torture they received and no medical treatment. The only thing they felt before they died was bullying and beatings. I see my friend whose eyes I closed before he died, and another friend, and another".
aiTaira was released from Russian captivity on June 17, 2022.
