Ukrainian journalist

became a soldier

This is about

Anastasia Blyshchyk

By Tetiana Larina

Ukraine,
Sep 20, 2023

aiAnastasia Blyshchyk is a Ukrainian journalist, a correspondent of the TV channels "Ukraine" and "Ukraine 24". In August 2022, she became a soldier.
aiAnastasia was born in Tavria, where she finished school, and then moved to Zaporizhzhia to fulfill her dream of becoming a journalist. For the first two years, the girl studied at the Zaporizhia National University, and after the second year, she moved to Kyiv. In the capital, she worked as a reporter on the "Espresso TV" channel, and since 2020 - on the "Ukraine" and "Ukraine 24" TV channels.
aiTwo years of work on the air were full of events: dozens of reports about the coronavirus pandemic, vaccinations. And one day, in the corridor of the editorial office, Anastasia Blyshchyk met her love - journalist and military officer Oleksandr Makhov.
aiOn May 4, 2022, Oleksandr died at the front in the village of Dovgenke near Izyum. An enemy tank fired at the house where Sashko and his comrades were hiding from the shelling.
aiThree months after the death of her beloved, Anastasia became a soldier, temporarily stopping work and a comfortable life in the capital. Instead of journalism, she learned to shoot and mastered tactical medicine in order to save her brothers at the front. In parallel with her service in the army, she communicates with other women who lost their husbands in the war. Rethinks the meaning of her life.

When I experienced the worst, I realized that the time had come and I had to stop thinking and go

aiThe war took the most precious thing from her - her Sashka. Now Anastasia considers it her duty to continue the cause of her beloved and to do everything possible so that the heroism of Oleksandr Makhov is known and remembered.
aiAnastasia thought about military service three years before the full-scale war in Ukraine. And after Oleksandr's death, she realized that civilian life had become a test for her:
ai- "When I experienced the worst, I realized that the time had come and I had to stop thinking and go. That's why I left. I didn't tell anyone about it. My parents didn't know, my sister didn't know... I was on my information front, yes, but now I feel that I am more needed here. Of course, after our victory, I want to return to journalism, because without journalism I cannot, it is mine."
aiAnastasia hopes that the victory will be as soon as possible, because she has many plans. One of them is to write a book based on Oleksandr Makhov's notes. The authorship is double - Oleksandr and Anastasia, because the girl also wants to describe their relationship and how they were together. She believes:
ai— "Sasha is near me, he protects me. He is my guardian angel."
